Tennis Programming.
Serving Stars introduces youth to tennis with the goal of helping them play on their high school teams and beyond. Our players learn the fundamentals of the sport through the official USTA curriculum and are guided by certified coaches who not only teach the game but also build character and confidence.
On the court, tennis becomes more than a sport. It is a tool for teaching leadership, resilience, teamwork, and other life skills that carry into school and everyday life. For those who are ready, we provide opportunities to compete in USTA tournaments, giving them the chance to test their skills, set goals, and see themselves as true athletes.
Serving Stars creates a pathway where every young person can start as a beginner, grow into a competitor, and develop into a leader.
Fitness and Wellness.
At Serving Stars, fitness is about more than getting stronger — it is about building lifelong healthy habits. Students use MOKI wearables to track their movement and see their progress in real time. They learn how to safely and confidently use exercise equipment, gaining skills they can carry into any gym or fitness setting.
We also introduce yoga and mindfulness, giving kids tools to manage stress, improve focus, and find balance both on and off the court. Every achievement, from a new personal best to consistent improvement, is celebrated, helping students take pride in their growth and stay motivated on their wellness journey.
Enrichment
Serving Stars goes beyond the court by helping students grow as thinkers, creators, and leaders. Through restorative justice circles, students practice communication, empathy, and reflection by sharing their experiences and listening to their peers. They explore their creativity through art projects and give back to the community with service learning at places like the YMCA food pantry and Lazarus House.
We also invite guest speakers to lead discussions on wellness and other topics that broaden perspectives. For students seeking more opportunities, we provide support with applications to summer academic programs such as Prep@Pingree and GovsPlus. Every activity is designed to open new doors, spark curiosity, and prepare our students for success in school and beyond.
Summer Programming
Each summer, Serving Stars brings the joy of tennis to Lawrence in partnership with Lawrence Parks & Recreation, the Lawrence YMCA, and USTA New England. Through our summer sessions and the Tennis in the Parks program, we introduce more than 400 children to the game, making tennis accessible to families across the city.
Our summer programming is all about opening the door to the sport. Kids pick up a racquet for the first time, learn the fundamentals, and experience the confidence that comes from mastering new skills. By the end of the summer, participants leave with a love of the game and a connection to healthy, active play that can last a lifetime.
Secondary School Placement
Serving Stars is committed to helping students take the next step in their education with confidence. Each spring we host our annual Secondary School Placement Night, bringing representatives from area schools directly to Lawrence. Families have the chance to connect with admissions staff, ask questions, and learn about new opportunities for their children’s futures.
Beyond the event, our team provides hands-on support throughout the entire process. We guide students as they prepare essays and applications, help them schedule required entrance exams such as the SSAT and HSPT, and connect them with additional resources for testing and placement. By combining this practical guidance with our daily programming, Serving Stars ensures that students and families feel supported every step of the way.
