How We Make a Difference
Serving Stars is creating opportunities for youth in Lawrence that reach far beyond the tennis court. Every number represents a story of growth, confidence, and possibility.
By the Numbers
- 1,000+ youth reached since our founding in 2020
- 400+ children introduced to tennis each summer through our partnerships with Lawrence Parks & Recreation, USTA New England, and the Lawrence YMCA
- 11 local teens hired and trained as coach-mentors (ages 16–22), gaining leadership and job experience
- 50+ racquets donated so every child has the equipment they need to play
- 4 students accepted into competitive summer academic programs such as Prep@Pingree and GovsPlus
- $10 or no-cost programs keeping tennis and enrichment accessible for every family
Stories of Growth
Our impact is best seen in the experiences of our players:
- Pathways to Education: At our annual
Secondary School Placement Night, families connect directly with school representatives, learning about admissions and opportunities that might otherwise feel out of reach. Serving Stars staff then guide students through applications, essays, and testing, giving them the confidence to take the next step.
- Leadership in Action: Teenagers in Lawrence are not only participants, but also role models. As
coach-mentors, they lead younger players on court, develop professional skills, and learn the value of responsibility and community service.
- Community Connections: Students give back through
service learning projects, from volunteering at the YMCA food pantry to helping at Lazarus House. These experiences show them that leadership is about more than sports — it’s about caring for their community.
- Expanding Horizons: Trips to places like
Harvard University and Brooks School allow students to see what is possible in both academics and athletics. For many, it is the first time stepping onto a college campus, sparking dreams of higher education.
Why It Matters
In a city where opportunities can feel limited, Serving Stars is proving that with the right support, every child can shine. We are building stronger athletes, scholars, and leaders who will carry these skills into high school, college, and beyond.
